President Obama -- Terms for Taxes

Barack Obama has been fighting everyone about his recent working decision to keep GW Bush’s across-the-board tax cuts afloat for the next 2 years. Peggy Noonan of the Wall Street Journal wrote a brilliant article demonstrating that President Obama looks like a big baby as he castigates the Right, the Left, AND the media over HIS decision to compromise. Normally, when a leader compromises, he doesn’t say, “I’m going to rescind my decision in 2 years” (when his presidency is over), but celebrates the fact he was able to find common ground amidst the most challenging times for the good of all people (sheesh!). Why would one alienate his enemies, his followers, and his cheerleaders?The other day there was a worse spectacle: President Obama let’s President Clinton speak as an apologist to his tax-cut extension decision. What was queerer is at that event, after Clinton spoke for 5 minutes, President Obama announced he had to go to a Christmas party and “we all know you shouldn’t keep the President’s Wife waiting”. Citizen Clinton went on to take questions from the press for 20 minutes!!! (something President Obama never does). Obama handed his bully pulpit over to Clinton – is this the bizzaro world? Pundits were rightly asking “Who is the president?” It feels like it’s a scene from “Back to the Future”; all we need is a souped-up DeLorean and Huey Lewis singing “Back in Time” and we will see Lyndon Johnson defending a public option for health care! Why would President Obama let President Clinton own his podium unsupervised? The numbers just don’t add up.

Here are a few thoughts:

1) WikiLeaks has leaked a wiki-lot. Remember file gate? Remember all the republicans in power stepping down during the Clinton administration and the Clinton scandals? Remember Hustler’s Larry Flint offering all kinds of cash for dirt on republicans? This mini-era is so Clintonesque. I wonder how much dirt is on the Obama team and their decisions; call me a conspiracy theorist but I think Mr. and Mrs. Clinton might have neutered the current administration through some unwitting surrogates.

2) Obama is failing badly. The aforementioned Noonan article suggests, traditionally, a candidate from either party running against a sitting president is usually a loser for both candidates and the party. The challenge doesn’t come from the establishment but from the unhappy fringe; that goes for both parties. She points to Kennedy/Carter, Reagan/Ford, and some others. She also suggests the only possible viable Obama challenger would be Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. I think she’s right.

3) What scenario could I see Clinton challenge President Obama WITHOUT damaging him, her, or the party?

a. President Obama has always maintained he would rather be a good 1-term president than a mediocre 2-term president (a jibe to W).

b. He steps down “for the good of the country”; after all, he took too many blows from all directions to turn this country around to its right course. He made tough, tough decisions for us all, our kids, the elderly, the poor, orphans, widows, spotted owls, and for intergalactic global peace.

c. He endorses Clinton and says she will be a different style of leader but will always do the right thing. She runs as a more centrist candidate and scoops up a ton of moderate & independents, while keeping her liberal base -- her term as a NY Senator and Secretary of State have seasoned her as a leader both home and abroad.

d. Obama comes out as a humble, altruistic President. Hillary is given the acclaimed nomination by the establishment; even the NAACP will back her. And the Democratic Party remains intact.

e. Joe Bidan? Who’s he?

Read Peggy Noonan’s article. I think my scenario makes sense, just don’t tell Obama, Clinton, or WikiLeaks. And please, don’t tell Joe Bidan because he may feel insignificant.

RE: Firing Juan Williams

I am grieved, bad. Juan Williams should have never been fired. He's a good liberal in the lions' den of conservatism--that's more than many at WGBH can say. In the movie "Scent of a Woman" The blind Col. Frank Slade has to defend good-hearted innocent Charlie Simms before all the onlookers, before an accusing, petty entity, and before a diverse board of directors. In the end, Charlie wins and the people rejoice. Justice is done. Social justice has become a funny word these days, sometimes a warped word. I hope the board of directors takes 2 steps back and does the right thing. Trust me: Juan will make you proud and the people will respect you. I look at my kids and all their sesame street toys and videos. I am evaluating how much we listen to NPR while we farm (all day). At some point sticking up for what is right needs to be reevaluated. I'm almost at the point of explaining to my kids why "it's not good to watch sprout TV". One would rhetorically ask, "Should the kids pay for the adults’ mistakes and ignorance?" I would rhetorically respond, "Shouldn't the adults pay for the mistakes and ignorance to the kids?"
There are many alternatives to NPR; PBS; WGBH; Sprout; classical and jazz music these days. There wasn't when I was a kid, but there is now for my kids. Do the right thing and don't go the way of dinosaurs into extinction.

Rahm Emanuel

This axiom has become the bedrock on which the Obama Admin is built. Their misunderstanding of this saying will turn the administration’s anchor into a millstone tied around their neck to be tossed into the oily sea by Middle America.

Emanuel’s philosophy needs to be synthesized with a couple other principles or their political leadership will be all washed up.

Serious crisis can help leaders if they know:

1) Reality is MORE important than appearances. People must know you are in control and care about the common good. Forgiveness will be at an all time high. People are with you. They will watch and see how much you care. They emotionally put themselves in your shoes and secretly hope you win for us all. It will be the first major step in your leadership ability. Pass this major test and write your ticket.

2) Appearances are SOMETIMES more important than reality. If you aren’t fighting for the good, and making progress, nothing else makes sense. But if people aren’t aware of what you’re doing, all the good makes little sense to others. You need to find symbolic ways to give confidence to the people.

3) Finally, you never want a serious crisis to go to waste. Once you have proven your leadership to the people you have the most important thing a leader and an admin team has—trust. Once you have trust, hammering away at all that non-crisis stuff becomes easier.

How has this Administration failed? Once this deep-water pipe started spewing barrel upon barrel into the Gulf waters, President Obama should have called all the military together (Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, Coast Guard) and figured out how to beat this thing. He should have had the press headline his quote talking to the military heads saying, “Today we are one branch working together; let’s cap this pipe!” President Obama could have received help offered from other countries. If there were legislation keeping them out of our waters, a democratic dominated house and senate would have run to the podiums to back up executive orders. What a win and great photo-op for donkeys! Appearances are SOMETIMES more important than reality. Once the problem is capped, Barack Obama becomes a national hero. He can push any legislation with gusto. To repeat a misinterpreted axiom: "You never want a serious crisis to go to waste." I do think there’s still time seize the opportunity. Not much.

Don't Lose the Real Debate--"Health Insurance Reform" (cough, cough)

All this health care talk is getting me upset. Issues are being bandied back and forth:

Quality of care for elderly/Euthanasia (end-of-life care)
Illegal Aliens “Rights to Services”
Cost, deficit issues, taxes
Overall quality of service (managed care verses European style)
Possibility of governmental intrusion
Freedom of choice diminishing
Abortion
And so many others

My contention is shouting doesn’t help. Liberal bureaucrats say “yes” or “no” to anything. The key for them: sign the deal, then legislate and judicate incrementally. They will promise the world and demonize opponents as mean-spirited. They will agree to any one of those issues: “Abortion, sure, we will make sure the government doesn’t get involved”. Several years later we are calling it ‘quality of life’ issues where the health of the baby and mother are at stake. Libs can promise anything—it’s not their money. It’s easy to say ‘yes’ or ‘no’ to anything.

Don't get hung up on those issues. We call it “insurance reform”; it’s really “democracy reform”—that’s what's at stake, our fundamental freedoms as a democracy. Keep using the word ‘socialism’ that’s what hyper-liberalism is. (<--notice the period)

I’m all for outreaches, help for the poor, truly reforming the health system but NOT for socialized medicine—no thank you. All the above will lose, but good “Red, White, and Blue” Americans do not want to be Socialists. If Americans expose this group of bureaucratic flakes as teetering Socialists, we may just get a new congress and President – then we get back to a democratic, capitalist system and true health process reform.

Psychopath/Sociopath

I have become interested in the differences between these 2 diagnosis. There are both a medical and legal connotations. One of these cats crossed my path and I'm glad the relationship was short lived. It has been learned this person had done damage in other communities and I'm sure the person will do it in other communities too. Scary. I asked, "Is the person 'socio' or 'psycho' path?"

The lines are shady but it seems the socio path is in less control of himself where as the psycho appears more orderly. The sociopath would tend to get caught at his malfeasance where the psychopath is a bit smarter, but still unaware to his own faults. I'm learning he/she blames everyone for his/her own problems yet justifies his own guilt. Yow! The ethics are always self-serving. Ultimately because of his disorders both of the "paths" cannot be successful. He can only blame loved ones and society for his failures. I guess these trapped people go snap, crackle, pop when the awareness hits that, "Maybe it's me". I think when that realization hits it's a crossroad to hurting destructive behavior. The destruction can go in any direction. I wonder if before they hurt themselves or others if they can find surrender to Christ and therapy. Is wholeness possible for the socio/psychopath? Of course we all say yes, but has there been success for whole living for him?

Miss California Carrie Prejean Exonerated

I appreciated Miss. CA's response to her being cleared of all wrong-doing.
This was part of her response afterward:

“Judge #8 began a cultural firestorm in the media; it went national, as he was trying to be self-promoting and hateful, while I have remained silent—since—I am honored to be here today. To finally let my voice be heard and address the hateful attacks, despicable rumors, and the false allegations I have had within the last 3 weeks…being at the center of a media firestorm is not something I had planned, or signed up for. But the days since have taught me to stand up for what you believe in regardless of the consequences, personal attacks, or disagreements.”

What if this situation were reversed? What if she were for same-sex marriage? What if she stated her own opinion for gay marriage, became maligned by the public, and then disgraced because of some shady photos (that didn’t fit the criteria for indecent)? How would the general media and Hollywood Left respond? Gotta admit, the kid stood up for herself without losing her congeniality. She also publically forgave anyone who slandered her. Some of those pics were photo-shopped and she forgave the hate-filled things said against her by people pushing their own agendas. May God give me the same grace when I am culturally attacked.

Kids, Watch and Learn!

My mother is visiting this week. My four-year-old girl is ecstatic. My mom gets to meet my newborn too. I am thankful my wife is secure with the relationship I have with my mother. Since we first got married, 10 years ago, my wife has always encouraged my mom and me to continue the close relationship we had prior to my marriage. Mom has always appreciated this. She says, “Even if she (my wife) were the most devious person in the world (which she’s not), it’s a great strategy to ‘keep friends close and enemies closer’”. That’s my girl. Kerry is so secure with my relationship with mom that she rented a hotel for 2 nights just a mile away from our house so we could spend quality time together. What a peach.

The bed-and-breakfast-like hotel is quaint. It seems like a medieval chateau or someplace Shakespeare would write sonnets by candlelight. Wicked-cool! She got us the “president’s suite” for a bargain. She was a hotel manager and knows how to talk to other hotel managers. It’s cool. We did laugh a bit. It has a long bar with many barstools. Two big plasma screen TV’s. It has a living room with a wrap-around couch and mirrors all along one wall. It also has pictures of Marilyn Monroe and Holly Golightly (the only thing missing is Liza Minnelli and Barbara on the ceiling!). It has a Jacuzzi and even something that looks like a professional dancer’s pole near the bar. It’s a gas watching a 70’something year-old mom pretend she is Charo singing “oochie-coochie” on the Merv Griffin Show. We had fun eating things we ought not eat while watching Nancy Grace excoriate murderous tot moms. 1 snafu: there was only 1 bed. Sleeping with my mom was cute when I was 4, not 4 decades later. I went foraging for supplies.

I headed downstairs to the Hotel California’s frontdesk to speak with the nightman to grovel for a pillow, a sheet, and a blanket to sleep on the big couch in the big room with the big TV. He looked like the mullet-sporting, skeleton-looking guy from Rocky Horror Picture Show. I think his name was Norman Bates. He walked me into a creepy closet and walked me up the creepy stairs back into my creepy room. It was creepy. I’m glad he didn’t tuck me in. Tourists come from all over to see this haunted hotel. I ignored all the stories parishioners have told me and kept repeating the mantra, “I don’t believe in spooks; I don’t believe in spooks!” I don’t; I guess. I have seen neither split pea soup flying across the room nor tables blocking exits thus far. If I had I would have checked our long ago; we are spook free!

It’s good to have my Italian/Portuguese mother here, even if it is a weird room. I can hear her sleeping as I type. Being the youngest of 5, I know I will know her the shortest time compared to my older sibs. I am a tad jealous. Having a newborn reminds me of how much I love her as I know she looked at me the way I look at my 2 kids. And if she looked at me the way she looks at my 10-week old, then I was a very happy infant. I have never seen such love in a woman’s eyes beside my wife for our kids. Jr. did not come from Lou’s womb, well, not directly—maybe there is something to that.

I am thankful for my wife too. She has inner-contentment and serenity. What other woman would rent a room for her husband and mother-in-law to get some “alone time”. My wife has fun with my mom and me, but says, “I see my family all the time, but you’re lucky to see you mom once a year”. I could have had a wife who was jealous or insecure with my mom’s closeness with me, instead, she encourages it. I hope Kerry reaps what she sows inheriting a daughter-in-law who encourages a fond relationship with our son and my wife Kerry. I pray she looks back and smiles that our son took the good from his old man and found a girl a little like his mom. I pray my future 40+ boy has as much fun with Kerry as I had “doing nothing” with my mom tonight. Let’s cherish the time with our parents while we can. We don’t know how much time we will have with them or the “facilities” we will enjoy, with them, or us.

Sopranos A&E

The last 8 or so years have been rough. My family watched the Sopranos every Sunday night and repeats on HBO throughout the week. The program has so many great Italian-American and East Coast references, yet the swearing, violence, and nudity is too much. It’s too bad. It would have been a great bonding piece with the family. As the youngest of 5, I’m used to missing out on all the fun!

Well, now the Sopranos are edited and watchable for my dainty eyes and ears on A&E channel—“I’m back, BABY!” I may be a decade behind, but at least I now know all the inside jokes.

One of my favorite quotes so far is Rosalie Aprile telling Adriana (who sold herself out to the feds) the reason why Sal "Big Pussy" Bonpensiero’s wife is no longer welcome to lady’s functions. S he explains, how even Judas didn’t act like Pussy when he betrayed Jesus…"At least Judas didn't go into any 'Apostle protection' program -- he hung himself, he knew what he did."

Stimulus Package

What got us into this financial disaster in the first place? Well one of the first places I can think of are these easy-credit, house scandals. We chucked money at people and lenders who had no business buying high-dollar homes. The mortgage rates were screwy and people signing the contracts had no idea what they were signing or the ramifications of actually paying that money back.

Another problem is a credit problem. Average Americans, and even college kids, became too debt heavy. Kids live of school loans and credit cards. Once they get married, they realize a difficult reality, "You have to pay that money back!" A welfare mentality is not just in "the hood" but in the suburbs, on Wall Street, and in the Beltway too.

We are at a financial crossroad, so what do we do? Feed the monster.

Obama, Pelosi, and Reed are given a Trillion dollar credit limit to "stimulate" the economy. The audacity to even ask for such a credit limit during these times, and especially knowing how we got into these times. A "Trillion" dollar credit limit can buy Microsoft, Walmart, Pepsi, Coke, and Google, with cash to buy some other mega-goodies! Who is going to pay the balance? My kids and their kids. Maybe our kids will just declare bankruptcy which is just saying uncle to socialism/communism. I wish we could just cut the cards and find other ways.

I like TV; no, I love TV. I love my TIVO too. You can watch what you want, when you want, and get right to the point. I must say too, I prefer cable over satellite. What’s nice about cable is you can juice the wires any way you want. You can’t do that with satellite. In NY we had Time Warner Cable and Road Runner Internet. We never had a problem. With the DVR we could tape two shows at once and watch another; very cool. We moved to CA and wanted to have Time Warner/Road Runner again. I asked the cable guy to put some holes in the wall that even a novice like me could do. He got all sassy telling me how much extra money it would cost. Basically he pouted. I asked him to leave and we have had Dish Network for over 2 years now.

Time Warner called me up offering a $33/$33/$33 deal for cable/internet/phone. That was an offer I couldn’t refuse, and because I juiced up the house with wires myself; I was willing to endure that pouty, sassy cable person. To my elation, I got a new guy with an upbeat attitude. He wasn’t a schmoozer but was a serious guy who took the tour around my house and told me everything I wanted was not only possible but made sense—WOW! He went above and beyond and did all the wire work through our tiny little attic. What a great guy. No wires! I pecked out a quick thank-you note to him and the company. Here’s why I prefer my cable over satellite:

They were very nice over the phone and threw in a bunch of freebies. The cost was better than satellite. No long term commitments; I can just cancel. Theoretically, I can tape two shows at once and watch two others with PIP (picture in picture). I can pipe my cable to any room in the house (including garage and back patio). Satellite allows only four. The best thing was the service. I have never had sales people and service people be so kind to me. For me, the service from the waiter in a restaurant is more important than the food or prices. Same with TV. For Time Warner/Road Runner, the prices got me, but the service will keep me.

It’s difficult to explain the joy and elation I feel as an American to truly say “anyone can become president of the United States”. It doesn’t erase the stain on our country to the harsh, inhumane treatment of Africans and many Native Americans, but it does open the door for young people of any color to say “I can be president”. My hope is that the pessimistic outlook of many youth will be lifted today and they can seize the opportunities of a Democratic, Represented Republic.

It’s a glorious, sentimental time. I appreciate the hopeful cadence in Obama’s voice. I’m smitten with George and Laura’s humble class as they hand over power. Even Bruce Springsteen’s raspy voice makes me feel patriotically nostalgic. It’s all good. This may sound odd, but what gave me a moment of hopeful serenity is seeing young Jenna and Barbara Bush giving a White House tour for Malia Ann and Sasha Obama. That made it all real for me.

This is the first day for our President’s journey. Let’s pray for him and his family. It’s bitter-sweet for us Americans. We pray 4 years for each leader. Other Christians need to pray a lifetime for their country’s kings or dictators. No matter what political bent, let’s pray for the Obama’s. May God bless them and America; and may we Americans be a blessing too.

USA Today--Activists cheer Obama's choice of gay bishop

He loves controversial ministers. President Elect Obama has now asked controversial Episcopalian Bishop, Rev. Gene Robinson, to take part in the inauguration. What meaneth thou this? It is said a President Obama will do away with “don’t ask, don’t tell” approaches to government employees. He plans to appoint gay officials in high ranks . These gestures are troublesome for many denominations. It’s difficult to think of anyone more polarizing than Robinson. Robinson's appointment is becoming the "shot heard around the world" causing the biggest church split of our day. Including Rev. Robinson does placate a fringe among the radical left. Warren is likened to Hitler by some. Robinson’s addition appeases them—for the moment.

Aside from that, President Elect Obama plans to have a dinner honoring opponent John McCain. This is seen as chivalrous by some political talking heads. It seems like it to me too. Is Obama a genuinely nice guy; or a calculating, smooth-talking, maniacal, tyrannical liberal with a “3 steps forward-2 steps back” approach to cultural, governmental change? I’m not sure. Either way, let’s just follow the money and follow the power to see what plays out. I love symbolism, but as for me and my house, we will choose substance any day.

PRW Anointing PE-BO

Seems like President Elect Obama will have Pastor Rick Warren give the invocation at his inauguration. The far left and far right are in a lather. I had a good, initial reaction to it. I was worried the sky would fall when Barak Obama came into office. It is exciting to have a black president; I’m just lamenting he has among the most liberal records in the Senate. For me the Warren prayer was just a small bone he could throw to guys like me. I now wonder if he actually can walk among both sides of the aisle; (that’s kind of easy when you have majorities in the both branches).

He is catching flack for Warren but is sticking to his guns. It's an easy decision to stick to though--good for him. I'm more surprised how much he ran on “change” yet pads his administration with dinosaurific, Clinton-machine leftovers. Hillary??? Leon Panetta???? Gimmee a break. Yeah, m-hm, that's change. T'will be an interesting 4 (8?) years. But hey, thanks President Elect Obama for an evangelical invocation. I look forward to bigger bones chucked my way throughout this long, arduous hidden-tax-filled presidency. Call me an optimist. :-)

Julia Duin of the Washington Times reports the difficult quandary many conservative Black pastors are in as it relates to Barack Obama. I am thankful an African American has been elected to run for president. We have a black teenager who is living with us. It is wonderful to say with confidence, “You can run for president too.” It’s no joke. I do appreciate the candor of these black pastors in this article. They claim they are “Christians first, and black second”. I respect that. I so want a black president but just not Barack Obama. He will not respect life nor will he respect marriage. There is a part of me that wants to make history this November, but I know in my heart that history will help destroy the future. Raymond seems to think we are being held hostage by liberal congressmen’s constituencies who don’t want ANWR touched at all, even at the cost of our national interests. There is more to drilling in ANWR than meets the eye. Kraft hates seeing us pay $130 a barrel to OPEC countries who hate us. We export $700 billion dollars a day to Middle Eastern countries. Hugo Chavez gets a nice chunk of that too. But we are outsourcing job, jobs that could be here in America. Kraft belives by drilling in Alaska and offshore again, we could hypothetically lower our low unemployment rate from 5% to 0%! People could actually stop collecting unemployment and welfare.

Think of it: once we begin drilling, the prices will come down. Countries will begin competing for our business. It’s a matter of opening 2,000 acres of the 19,049,236 area of land (that’s 2 commas, as in ‘millions’).

Let’s not let Algorish-type senators stop our country from flourishing. Do not vote for a selfish, self-destructive liberal this year. Well, did you hear Hillary Clinton’s Don’t Cry for me Argentina speech—yuck!

Basically her speech was about her -- “I, me, my/myself”— and, oh yeah, "Barack" too. I went through the speech to do a word count and found her using the words “I” 63x’s; “me” 17x’s; “my” 26x’s; and “myself” 1x (I, myself, am not a big fan of the pronoun “myself” either—that doesn’t make “me” like her any more though).

Do you want to hear the real Hillary? This is what we would have had to contend with to have Clinton in the White House for 4 l-o-n-g years. Here the big quote from her speech:

Something has not been right and I couldn’t put my finger on it until just this second– 24!
We real 24 fans call that period between the end of the 24 series in May until the beginning of the 24 season in January “Hibernation”. Hibernation is waiting until that next 24-hour period to see Jack Bauer stop a terrorist plot against the US while simultaneously battling deadly, federal bureaucracies and battling his own internal moral ethics—ahhh, just the thought gives me shivers!

Like an alcoholics’ self-awareness, we 24 addicts need to take that first step: “Recognize the Problem”. If you’re a real 24 fan, you may not know it but something “ain’t right”. Embrace that feeling; your patriotism runs deep like the millions of men who joined the military in the 40’s and went to war stopping emerging evil empires. Recognizing the problem is the first step. Since I have; I feel better and am more self-aware.

I said the other night how elated I was to see a black candidate for president. My sense was that moment of my historic nostalgia would last until only midnight. Well, this is my second day. Making new enemies: We should define what our parameters are. We ought to define what is acceptable and what isn’t. Let’s beef up our intelligence and find out what’s going on. Let’s get the greatest minds together and win this war against radical Islam. We need great theologians and philosophers too who can articulate why suicide bombing contradicts a great monotheistic God and why those leaders cannot be trusted.

Liberals: stop jeopardizing our children’s future; see these dictators as they are--they want you d-e-a-d, dead. Once Israel is wiped out, they are coming for you. You say, “No Nukes”. What if people started having abortions to prevent that from happening? Would feminists and lesbians begin campaigning against homoinfanticide?

You may say, “Hah! That’s preposterous; there is no such thing as ‘homoinfanticide’!” If there were, would your abortion ethic change?

If a third of our baby girls/women were being aborted because of gender, would your abortion ethic change? Yes? That’s not just situation ethics but selfish-situation ethics. Rethink abortion.

This guy could have done Shakespeare but chose comedy instead. Most actors agree comedy is more difficult than tragedy. The irony is he couldn't play his comedy straight and would always crack up doing gags on The Carol Burnett Show; that's what made his routines so funny.

I remember reading this article by Ann Coulter. It made so much sense to me then, and even more sense today. We are “shell”ing out 4 bucks a gallon for gas while feeding terrorist countries our money. They must be thanking Alah for our liberal politicians.

How do we get prices down? Tax American oil distributors with hefty jacked-up corporate tax? Ease tariffs for Middle Eastern countries? Let the Americans pay dearly and force US to ride bikes and use mass transportation?

No. Increase production.

If we begin drilling in our own country; If we lower taxes; If we stop putting all this crap in the gas causing us to lose mileage per gallon, then the Oil Lords will lower prices to get us to buy their stuff. (Can a 3rd grader figure this out?)

Read Ann’s article written 6 years ago. Nine out of 10 caribou support drilling. We need to start drilling and producing, get back to prospering, and weaken the stronghold on these Islamic countries. I believe it is a matter of national security. Russia and China would probably agree too.

San Angelo, Texas is having a heck of a time figuring out who belongs to whom. Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints’ mothers are being tight-lipped about which polygamist patriarch spawned each of these children.

Of coarse there is DNA, but family court doesn’t want to be so uncivil about such sensitive matters. There is the obvious—appearance.

Have you noticed each of these women have similar features?
* They are tall.
* They have distinctly colored outfits.
* Their hair is a bit taller than average, sort of brushed up.

But there is one distinct feature that was the tell-all for the majority of these kids:

* That famous uni-brow.

Only 1 person could force scores of women and children to appear this way. Texas authorities believe they have caught the true cult leader. Who is it?

Hillary Clinton apologized Friday after citing the June 1968 assassination of Robert F. Kennedy (below) in defending her decision to keep running for the Democratic presidential nomination.

SICK. Disgusting. And yet revealing. Hillary Clinton is staying in the race in the event some nut kills Barack Obama.

It could happen, but what definitely has happened is that Clinton has killed her own chances of being vice president. She doesn't deserve to be elected dog catcher anywhere now.

Her shocking comment to a South Dakota newspaper might qualify as the dumbest thing ever said in American politics.

Her lame explanation that she brought up the 1968 assassination of Robert Kennedy because his brother Ted's illness was on her mind doesn't cut it. Not even close.

We have seen an X-ray of a very dark soul. One consumed by raw ambition to where the possible assassination of an opponent is something to ponder in a strategic way. Otherwise, why is murder on her mind?

It's like Tanya Harding's kneecapping has come to politics. Only the senator from New York has more lethal fantasies than that nutty skater.

We could have seen it coming, if only we had realized Clinton's thinking could be so cold. She has grown increasingly wild in her imagery lately, invoking everything from slavery to the political killings in Zimbabwe in making her argument for the Florida and Michigan delegations. She claimed to be the victim of sexism, despite winning the votes of white men.
But none of it was moving the nomination needle, with Obama, despite recent dents, still on course to be the victor.

So she kept digging deeper, looking for the magic button. Instead, she pushed the eject button, lifting herself right out of consideration.
Giving voice to such a vile thought is all the more horrible because fears Obama would be killed have been an undercurrent to his astonishing rise. Republican Mike Huckabee made a stupid joke about it recently. Many black Americans have talked of it, reflecting their assumption that racists would never tolerate a black President and that Obama would be taken from them.

Clinton has now fed that fear. She needs a very long vacation. And we need one from her.

Say good night, Hillary. And go away.

I can’t believe what Hillary Clinton said today. She was asked by a South Dakota newspaper why she didn’t buy the argument the party was fracturing because of the prolonged contest.

Clinton said “my husband didn’t wrap up the nomination in 1992 until he won the California primary somewhere in the middle of June. We all remember Bobby Kennedy was assassinated in June in California,” she continued. “You know I just don't understand it.” T-A-C-K-Y!

Hillary is considered by some partisans to be “the smartest women in America”. I think there are more subtle, maniacal, subliminal messages in her statements. She later apologized for the misstatements.

Therefore, C3 will not call her the smartest woman in America but the tackiest.

What makes her Bobby Kennedy getting killed statements so tacky?

· Black History--Barrack Obama is black. People have for a long time commented how the first black president would be a dangerous job. Clinton knows how to say stuff thne quickly apologize for it. Tacky.
· Kennedy History--Ted Kennedy almost had a near death experience this week. He has a brain tumor and probably won’t live too long. To bring up Bobby Kennedy’s death so flippantly this week is tacky at best.
· Clinton History--Carnage surrounds the Clinton administration.

Friends, that was a tacky apology. No apolgy for Obama. Part of me wants her to run to energize the Republican Party, part of me hope she fails so we never see this Nixon-like candidate in the White House, ever.

I did something I haven't done in years--watched The Price is Right.

What the heck happened??? I was expecting handsome, charismatic Bob Barker and watched portly, listless, unfunny Drew Carey instead--blah!

Usually when there is a successor you try to go up, not regress. Carey isn't funny, he can't do the math in his head while contestants are spinning the big wheel, doesn't make the contestants feel good about their winnings and losings, and he's not kissable--Barker and Richard Dawson were all those things and more.

Whether I watch Drew Carey on a game show or sitcom, I just don't get it. I'm not an avid game show watcher--just Jeopardy! I would be interested what people who watch Price is Right religiously think.

As for me?

Gay Marriage -- CA&US

On May 15th in San Francisco the CA Supreme Court lifted the gay marriage ban. In short, it’s ok for 2 men or 2 women to marry each other. This not only affects CA but our whole country too.

Michael Foust of the Baptist Press expands this thought:

California's high court isn't the first to hand down such a ruling -– Massachusetts' court owns that distinction –- but its impact has the potential to be far more significant, for at least four reasons: The decision was issued in the nation's most populous state; the court is one of the most, if not the most, influential high courts in the country; the justices placed sexual "orientation" alongside race, sex and religion in protected class status; and, unlike Massachusetts, California has no residency requirements, meaning that same-sex couples from every state can travel to the Golden State, get a marriage license, and then go back to their home state and sue for recognition.

1) CA is the most populous state.

2) CA is among the most influential courts in the country.

3) Sexual orientation is now a protected class.

4) Anyone from other US states can get hitched in CA and that Same-sex marriage must be honored in the state where they reside. Even Utah.

McCain is against gay marriage. Obama, Clinton, and Pellosi are for it. Those 3 celebrate gay marriage.

As a result from this court decision, on the next day, Ellen Degeneres announced on her daytime TV show her incipient marriage to girlfriend Portia DeRossi. I have always liked Ellen as a comedian; liked her less when she promoted her personal proclivities. This is a shake-of-the-dice for her again. A decade ago she came-out on her sitcom Ellen while dating girlfriend Ann Heche. Her TV show’s ratings plummeted until she was able to find a voice-over gig for the 2003 box office smash children’s cartoon Finding Nemo. Now, 5 years later, The Ellen DeGeneres Show’s daytime ratings are doing swell. She's coming out again with overt self-disclosure. Will the public be supportive, or say Tah-tah mu-cha-cha” just like they did in 1997? They would later say buh-bye to Daytimer Rosie O’Donnell twice: once from the Rosie show and later from The View. These Hollywood types are not subtle, are they?

One of my favorite political talking-heads, Laura Ingraham, has a book called Shut Up and Sing. She thinks great singing entertainers like the Dixie Chicks; Barbara Streisand, and Bruce Springsteen should stick to what they know and simply thrive. Maybe she should write another book—Shut Up and Tell Jokes. Ellen could have been a quiet presence for the gay community if she hadn’t addressed the controversial issue; modestly got married; and been a model of success to both the gay and straight communities. This thing ain't over folks.

The slim, 4-3 margin, California Supreme Court order to legalize gay marriage won't take effect for 30 days -- pro-family groups are already positioned to overturn the overturning. The timing may just work out for political advantage toward traditional candidates. Nothing like exposing left-leaning candidates and Hollywood pundits for who they are during an election--let’s watch to see how this affects Ellen too.

Will this be a trend-setter or have the same old effect for the same old people?

We are so pleased she won. America's Next Top Model didn’t go for the unrealistic stick-girls but went for a full-figured model—Go Tyra and ANTM!!! I wouldn’t call Whitney “Rubenesque” and prefer folks wouldn’t refer to her as plus-sized—she’s still a tad boney in my book; I am thankful they went with a less anorexic-binge&purge-looking girl. I hope this is a foot in the door for the husky girls. Today’s supermodels are not the picture of health for American girls. And though they think they’re all that and a bag-of-chips, some of us guys don’t find the Auschwitz look attractive. It will be interesting to follow Whitney’s career to see how many gigs she gets and to see if more average sized women are afforded opportunity.

Look out world—size 5 girls are now able to stand in front of the camera!

American Idol -- 08

I want David Cook to win on Wednesday.

He's new and different. I can't remember anyone like him in Rock & Roll history.

He owns songs. The other idol-wannabees either do second-rate performances of great performers, or they try to make it their own and botch the whole thing up (see Jason doing "I Shot the Sheriff" Bob Marley style).

He's humble. Remember Melinda Doolittle last year? When she received compliments, she would act all surprised? David Archuleta? He is "blown away" when he is called "safe" by Ryan Seacrest. Melinda and David A. seem to feign humility. When David Cook received his standing ovation and props from Simon, I believed his tears. When he does poorly he takes it like a man.

David Cook is living a dream; and may I say an "American" dream. It is American Idol, not Australian or Irish Idol. David Archuleta seems to have been groomed a star in the same way Lindsay Lohan was. Our boy David Cook is a bartender who played once in a while in the tavern. He's a modern-day American Cinderella story. We love Horatio Alger, rags-to-riches stories (see waitress Kelly Clarkson) .

He won't win, but he's no number 2! (see Clay Akin) The sad fact is teenyboppers are the ones who by records, not us old folks (my youth group would snicker saying we don't even 'buy' 'records', we 'download' 'ITunes'!") I may buy 1 or 2 records a year--these kids do the same weekly. I have never voted for an idol; these kids do it several times a week. David Archuleta may win the votes, but I will buy one of David Cook's records and would even pay the same $7 dollars I paid to see my first Peter Frampton rock concert in the 70's.

I think David Cook will be the best thing AI has produced since its founding.

I remember as a kid being scared out of my wits watching Invasion of the Body Snatchers. Is it possible an alien nation is growing in our country among us humans? Could a Frank Burns'ish alien race assimilate into our American way of life and dominate our planet ?

It’s the top rated show in America by young people and they sang a beautiful tribute to my Savior and Lord Jesus Christ! I think Gabriel the angel was right when Mary asked him how difficult tasks can be accomplished, he said, “Nothing is impossible with God.” (Luke 1:37).

The average age of the military man is 19 years. He is a short haired, tight-muscled kid who, under normal circumstances is considered by society as half man, half boy. Not yet dry behind
the ears, not old enough to buy a beer, but old enough to die for his country. He never really
cared much for work and he would rather wax his own car than wash his father's, but he has
never collected unemployment either.

He's a recent High School graduate; he was probably an average student, pursued some form of sport activities, drives a ten year old jalopy, and has a steady girlfriend that either broke up with him when he left, or swears to be waiting when he returns from half a world away. He listens to rock and roll or hip-hop or rap or jazz or swing and a 155mm howitzer.

He is 10 or 15 pounds lighter now than when he was at home because he is working or fighting
from before dawn to well after dusk. He has trouble spelling, thus letter writing is a pain for him,
but he can field strip a rifle in 30 seconds and reassemble it in less time in the dark. He can recite to you the nomenclature of a machine gun or grenade launcher and use either one effectively if he must.

He digs foxholes and latrines and can apply first aid like a professional.

He can march until he is told to stop, or stop until he is told to march.

He obeys orders instantly and without hesitation, but he is not without spirit or individual dignity. He is self-sufficient.

He has two sets of fatigues: he washes one and wears the other. He keeps his canteens full and his feet dry.

He sometimes forgets to brush his teeth, but never to clean his rifle. He can cook his own meals, mend his own clothes, and fix his own hurts.

If you're thirsty, he'll share his water with you; if you are hungry, his food. He'll even split his ammunition with you in the midst of battle when you run low.

He has learned to use his hands like weapons and weapons like they were his hands.

He can save your life - or take it, because that is his job.

He will often do twice the work of a civilian, draw half the pay, and still find ironic humor in it all.

He has seen more suffering and death than he should have in his short lifetime.

He has asked nothing in return, except our friendship and understanding. Remember him, always, for he has earned our respect and admiration with his blood.

And now we even have women over there in danger, doing their part in this tradition of going
to War when our nation calls us to do so.

But as far as my voice can speak to whom I say should be President of these great United States, I don't want an imbalanced leader. In short, I like the guy less. Barry needs to show a little more equality in his rhetoric of unity.

It is a difficult to think of McCain being the Republican nominee. I have had that awful, violent sickness that is going around. If you are a true-red republican, as I am, you are probably catching it too. What's making us so sick? The thought of that awful Kool-Aid we conservatives have to drink before we vote for McCain.

Every time I hear Republicans whom I respect call John McCain a "true conservative" I get shivers; Carl Rove of all people too! I am a true conservative and don’t sense the pugnacious maverick is conservative. Conservatives are worrying they have to sell their soul to vote for him. Their worries are valid.

The problem is the Kool-Aid; it’s moderately bland and often unapologetically blue! At least Jim Jones' Kool-Aid was red and they added sugar. John McCain is not even trying to pander to us on the right. He doesn't apologize for his sins against his party from the past. He doesn't even apologize toward his recent pre-Romney-drop-out campaign promises that don't reflect the views of Reaganite, Contract-with-America-type conservatives. We conservative Republicans don’t trust him. If his Kool-Aid doesn’t turn Republican Red and Conservative Sweet, I ain’t drinking it!

Ann Coulter said if John McCain gets the nomination she will campaign for Clinton. She jests Hillary has been stronger on the war on terror than McCain has. Brilliant! She makes a point with her subtle wit. McCain has been against the war efforts in many ways. Hillary has voted more correctly. Coulter smacks McCain where it hurts most with the military. Incidentally I just watched her get grilled by Hannity and Colmes for that position. She was asked what if Obama wins the Democratic nomination; would she campign for him? She quipped she “doesn’t know anything about Obama yet”. All she knows is he is for “hope”. She said “I'm against hope”. Hahhh!!!! Another jibe to the Libs, red and blue. Obama stands for nothing. But this is about McCain: If I am going to die for a candidate, I want my Kool-Aide red and I want it sweet! "John, if we are going to commit political suicide for one bad leader have the decency to lie to us--then maybe we might drink”.

Kennedy3 Endorsement

Merriam Webster--magnetism 2: an ability to attract or charm.

I questioned whether Obama’s magnetism or Clinton’s machine could win in a political brawl. My last comment to Obama was “Nice knowing ya pal”, but not so fast Chip, you never know; magnetism, like magnetic attraction has appeal. People can reject machines. I couldn’t give away my old Sony Walkman even if it were in a new package. People want something new but it has to have the flavor of the old; that’s what the kennedys bring to Obama.

Let me get it out loud and clear: Barak Obama is a class A liberal. I wouldn’t vote for him. Having said that, there is much to comment on his campaign and to what he resonates with Americans.

His speech in South Carolina was dynamite! He inspired all age groups, both genders, all colors, both parties. He created a big tent even for Republicans to enter. That was masterful. Bill Clinton and other political yappers have been dissing Obama on Hillary’s behalf. Clinton’s negative spin machine is kicked high gear but Obama’s positive magnetism has also kicked way up.

Today the Kennedy’s endorsed Obama. This is big on many levels. Young Patches Kennedy from RI introduces Caroline, who never endorses anybody, and she endorsed Uncle Teddy of Massachusetts. Ted is a machine himself similar to the Clintons. Even beyond that, we have to think what these 3 people represent:

1) Powerful wonderbread people affirming a black candidate. Oprah was nice but the Clinton’s have been saying under the radar “America isn’t ready for a black president". White Kennedys say “you’re wrong”.
2) Sure, South Carolina voted for him, but what about the liberal, New England elite? Kennedys trump Clintons.
3) Mass is a big state with many delegates. One less big hoop to jump through.
4) The Kennedys with one voice endorsing Obama connects the past too. Both Obama and the Clintons have have painted him as an MLK type, but the Kennedys have painted him as a Kennedy type. Clinton referenced herself as an LBJ to MLK, but the Kennedys have alluded to Obama being a JFK to MLK—Brilliant!
5) To me each Kennedy is not just one voice of endorsement but represent others:

i. Ted—The old guard. Most of those kids and their parents celebrating at the Kennedy endorsement weren’t old enough to remember Jack. Kennedy, the most powerful member in the Senate and brother of JFK and RFK, endorsing Barak as a Senator and as a man speaks volumes. Kennedy is beloved by the unions, especially Hispanic/Latino unions. That is a major demographic stronghold for Clinton; not any more.

ii. Caroline—She never endorses anybody but did for BO. She not only has the Oprah factor but is white. She is a white woman. She is a white, Kennedywoman. Her father died for civil rights and her presence says “My dad would smile at this day" speaks volumes. Let’s not forget Hillary’s unlikablility factor. Female CK is good for the woman vote.

iii. Patrick Kennedy—As liberal as he is, people like him. I am a RI’er. Patches wins by going to the retirement centers and let’s elderly people pinch his check. He’s an icon for youth. His endorsement helps give the young Kennedys a face too. Caroline was just coverd on AARP. Patrick still has gusto. His presence shows Obama is for the younger generation.

I said “nice knowing ya pal” to Obama a few weeks ago, but I’m not so sure now. The Clinton Machine is powerful but the Kennedy3 endorsement changes things. It will be interesting to see what the Clintons’ next move will be. Obama’s chance of survival are looking better, I’d just get a wine taster if I were he.

Understanding Primaries My wife came across this simple explanation about the primaries. McCain has all the juice right now, but surprisingly, Romney has the most delegates won and Huckabee is 2nd. McCain 3rd. Super Tuesday will be the big one.

There are so many delegates up for grabs. I think if I had to rate my hopefuls they would be:

Huckabee

Romney

Giuliani

McCain

I am still checking out Paul, His voice is like fingernails on a chalkboard. I trust many of my friends who dig him though.

This is a tough election year. I like the first Republican, Abe Lincoln, even more than the iconic Ronald Reagan. I don't see any of the Democrats filling Abe's hat; Republicans either. T'will be a rocky year indeed.

I chuckled at this article headline at first, but gave it a second thought. Couples do need to fight, but fight fair and scripturally. One passage came to mind, the Hebrew writer admonishes: “Marriage should be honored by all, and the marriage bed kept pure, for God will judge the adulterer and all the sexually immoral. Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, because God has said,
“Never will I leave you;
never will I forsake you.” (Heb. 13:4-5).
Trusting the Lord at the center of a marriage and your spouse confidently by our side, is so important. Kerry and I covenanted together to make God #1 before us, and make each other #2, even before our child. Our love came 1st, for each other 2nd, and our child is the fruit of that love, we are to be good stewards of our gift--and what a gift this kid is (though she is 3rd)! Her seeing our love for God and each other teaches her more than if she was made 1st in our lives. The other passage that comes to mind is from Paul’s letter to the Ephesians: “In your anger do not sin”: Do not let the sun go down while you are still angry, and do not give the devil a foothold.” (4:26, 27). He later talks about living in peace and not brawling, but I think spouses need to talk, and sometimes passionately. But when it gets heated, we ought to apologize--“I’m sorry”—ouch! Kerry and I were barely sure we would make it in our first year of marriage; we had so much to work through. Each year it has gotten better and better to the point I can’t imagine it any better. But one thing I can say is we have fought fair, and when we didn’t we apologized. When I meet couples who have been married 50+ years, I always ask if they have any advice. Try it sometime; you will be surprised to what you hear.

The marriage I have respected most responded with, “We have kept God first, and whenever we have problems, we always talk about it. When we are wrong, we have never been afraid to apologize”. Then the nice little-old-man went on and on speaking to me prophetically. I wish I took notes when I was 19!

God #1, fighting fair, apologizing--maybe this study is less funny after all.

It's My Turn!

Carnage still surrounds the Clinton machine. Fair fighting is not in their playbook. Carnage followed their administrational footprints—literal and figurative. Any woman accusing Bill of sexual indiscretions was silenced. Activist feminists were silenced. They and much of the media, beside conservative dominated AM radio media at that time, refused to conduct investigative-style reporting seen in All the Presidents Men. Hillary stood by her man and believes it’s her turn(!).

But then there’s Obama. How will they handle this one?

It’s not Barak Obama’s turn, it’s Hillary’s(!). Aren’t the Clinton’s supposed to be modern-day Lincolns? A friend of the black people? Aren’t they supposed to raise up the oppressed? JFK’s for the new millennium? But Obama is in the way for her getting her agenda on the table. Who cares that he has a mysterious messianic presence like MLK, JFK, and Bobby(!). It’s her turn(!). She, Bill, and all their dinosauric conspirators know the stakes for their getting back into the White House. They had 8 years there and aren’t going to let that so-and-so ruin there chances. So what are they to do? Slander, slander, slander. Just like they setback feminism decades, they will setback racial reconciliation too. Do you think this is a fair fight between a good woman and a good, black man? No. She will make mincemeat out of him. The only problem is it can’t come from them but must come from others--especially black people. Expect constant references to Obama’s former drug experiments. Maybe pointing to his Muslim name (B. Hussein Obama). He is inexperienced. If things get really bad, folks, even the “blackest” Clinton-friendly people will claim “America isn’t ready for a Black-president”. Bill claimed he “didn’t inhale” and he was marching in Red Square during the Vietnam War. None of that will “whitewash” Obama like it did for Bill. They will point to his drug use, Muslim name, and ultimately, Clinton, the reputed “first black president” will paint Obama blacker than he is. After all, it’s her turn(!).

Let’s watch and see who comes out to speak against Obama. It can’t come from the Clintons because they might just be called “racist”. (And isn’t that label reserved only for Republicans?)

I am ABC (Anyone But Clinton)

Folks, I know Clinton is a radical liberal. She wants to create a welfare state. She is against entrepreneurship; wants to raise taxes on the wealthy and give to the poor. She wants to create the largest bureaucracy in American history by providing a national healthcare system. She is anti-gun; pro-choice; pro-gay marriage; wants to open the borders for a free-for-all. I know John Lennon’s song “Imagine” would be the new national anthem if she could change it. That’s not what worries me.

I really can’t put my finger on it, but I worry about a neo-Nixon administration. I am too young to remember the 70’s. As I recall, Nixon developed a sense of inevitability, paranoia, and corruption. If Bill and Hillary get back into the White House I think the same dynamic could happen to them. Am I reading the Nixon administration wrong or is that what happened with the campaign contributions and trying to ruin all their perceived enemies.

Let’s say Hillary wins and she and Bill get back into the White House. Can anyone see the possibility of this same grandiose attitude developing?

Watergate was a dark stain on this country’s history. What could a future Clinton administration be like? That’s what I worry about with the Clintons— not just extreme liberalism but the corruption. That's why I am an ABC'er (Anyone But Clinton).

The Clinton Machine VS the Obama Magnetism

I really thought Clinton was going to lose today. She is narrowly winning in NH as I type. She went ballistic in a debate the other night and had an Oprah/the View moment yesterday when she "showed her emotions". It was an academy award moment. It did humanize her a little. She almost looked like she was ready to cry. Rumor has it that the Clintons will be pulling in some of the old dinosaur campaign managers to help with the campaign. We can expect the campaign trail to be theatric and bloody.

Obama is being compared to a JFK or an MLK Jr. He has the electricity a candidate needs to stir up the party. Though I don't like the issues he stands for, it's good for America to have him run; what healing for US!

I just think the Clintons have a way of setting feminism and racial reconciliation back for their own political expedience. She and the Carvell/Begala machine will do anything to get her in, even if it means hurting innocent women as seen with Bill's scandals. Hurting people of color who get in the way of their ambitious clawings back into the White House isn't beyond them either.

It will be an interesting race between the Machine and the Magnetism. I sort of feel bad for Obama ahead of time. Nice knowing ya pal.

Making Music in Iowa

Last night was a doozy! I guess I am a nerd. I TIVO'd the news for 6 hours, but hey, no commercials!

Ron Paul: I don’t understand the appeal of this man. I have several friends who are good, solid evangelicals who say he is the only true “(I forgot the phrase)”. I suspect he has the backing to become an Independent and upset both democratic and republican applecarts.

John McCain: I am ascared of this guy. Even if he is a “republican”, he is so unpredictable. Historically, that ‘maverick’ nickname has not been a positive one for this active voter. His votes across party lines and for the good of America have often seemed self-serving. Call me an elephant, but I don’t forget. He may win NH; I hope he wins nothing else.

Dodd, Bidon, Richards: Makings of good Veeps. Richards may be the most appealing because of the Hispanic vote. LA Mayor Villaraigosa would have been before his Univision reporter scandals. I do like Bidon for some reasons. He’s good in the senate or a cabinet position.

Clinton: Gets the bronze. People don’t call it “the bronze”, but call it 3’rd--not good for someone with such name recognition. She has a great knack for turning negatives into positives. Even though she came in 3rd, she was praising her party like a mother hen for the great Iowa showing of democrats to the caucus. It seemed disingenuous. There were a bunch of old democratic dinosaurs standing behind her. Losing to Obama and Edwards was no boon. I respect the fact she went to Iowa. They are counting on women voting for her but I’m not sure they are counting on women to come out to vote against her.

Giuliani: Unlike Clinton, Rudy had no presence in Iowa and came in last. He spent his time in Florida. I don’t think this works well in the long haul. His past is too checkered and there is only so much juice he can run off from being a presence during America’s and NY’s 9-11. He comes off flippant at times. I recall an awful cell-call he took from his wife while talking to the NRA’s—not good. That Christmas add sitting on Santa’s lap was hideous. On top of that, not caring about Iowa hurt too. I think any democrat can beat him at this point.

Thompson: Came in too late. He looks tired and sounds listless. I’m not sure I would want him as a running mate.

Romney. A year ago I thought he was going to be the most electable Republican candidate. I thought too he needed to give a “Jack Kennedy speech” and say, “Just like Rome didn’t run America during JFK’s time, Salt Lake City won’t run Washington during my time.” He gave his ho-hum speech way too late. Huck grabbed the Evangelicals and Romney came across as a hating flip-flopper. He should have grabbed the Evangelicals while he had the opportunity.

Edwards: Wow! I was surprised. I was actually happy for him. I felt bad for him during the John Kerry bumblings. They should have switched roles. Being number 2 (chip snickers like a junior higher at this point) is actually a good thing from Iowa. His energy was awesome last night. He speaks like a lawyer in deliberations. He’s a motivator. His problem is he is a wealthy, wealthy man campaigning for the poor and middle class. It’s a tough sell. He doesn’t have the history like the Kennedy’s do. Bush Sr. ran a repulsive clip of Dukakis riding around in an army tank with a helmet on his head. Dukakis’ child-like grin on his face didn’t help. That killed him. The republicans have a slow motion clip of Edwards getting a $400 haircut. I can just see the background saying “does he really care about the poor?” It makes him look like a sissy too. Not even sure if he will get the woman vote.

Obama: I (politically, not ideologically) LOVE this guy! He reminds me of JFK. He’s different. He appeals to young people. He’s handsome. He has cute little kids who will be running around the White House. He offers a new era for not only hope but healing our country’s past sins. But as much as I love the man, he is very liberal. He won’t get my vote.

Huckabee: My guy and not because he is a Baptist preacher. Different from Romney, he did exactly what I had hoped. Anywhere there was a microphone, he talked about why this country is so great and why he would make the best president. My Republican friends, who don’t like him, state some minor issues of why they don’t trust him. The same arguments and more could be used about their favorites. I think he has the goods and I think I dig him. I actually think all the negative mud-slinging that may come from the left-leaning media about his being a preacher may help him and the dialogue. He has brass and that may be helpful from 8 years of Bush (whom I have liked too) As far as a running mate, let’s get through NH, SC, FL and Super Tuesday first.

Kerry's Take on Toy Recalls

These recalls make me very angry. I have always known products made in China or Taiwan are sub-standard, but this is way over the top! The Chinese-made toy Aqua Dots are coated a "Date Rape" drug and Wendy cribs pose strangulation threats to babies--this may be what it takes for Americans to wake up and stop buying "toxic-junk" for their families from China. The costs for Chinese products are more expensive than we think.

This recall calls for a serious response from the US. I believe the most effective action citizens can take is to seek out products proudly stamped "Made in the USA." Our family will buy American from now on. It may mean we buy less, but we will buy with confidence. I'll hope to come up with a list of American produced toys. Join me to protect our families and boost the American economy.
